SUMMARY
The San Leandro Public Library received $40,500 from the Friends of the San Leandro Public Library to provide and enhance Summer Library Program, Programs at the Manor Branch Library, and Spanish Book Club.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Staff recommend the City Council adopt a resolution to accept the donation and authorize the City Manager to execute all documents and take all necessary actions related to the Friends of the San Leandro Public Library donation of $40,500 to provide and enhance Summer Library Program, Programs at the Manor Branch Library, and Spanish Book Club to enhance the Quality of Life for San Leandro’s residents through diverse and robust library programming.
BACKGROUND
The Friends of the San Leandro Public Library was established in 1984 to support the San Leandro Public Library. They have continuously supported the library throughout the years.
The Friends of the San Leandro Public Library efforts provide funding that can be used for services, programs, materials, etc.
Analysis
The Friends of the San Leandro Public Library provided $40,500 for the Summer Library Program, Programs at the Manor Branch Library, and Spanish Book Club.
Applicable General Plan Policies
• GOAL CSF-3 Sustain and expand a public library system that provides a destination for exploration and discovery, knowledge and information, leisure and cultural enrichment, and life-long learning opportunities for persons of all ages.
• Policy CSF-3.3 Adequate Funding. Ensure that library funding remains adequate to sustain or increase existing service levels, including staffing, programming, and technology upgrades. Maintain or exceed American Library Association standards throughout the City’s library system.
• Policy CSF-3.4 Libraries as Neighborhood Centers. Promote programs and events that affirm the role of the City’s libraries as community and neighborhood gathering places and that reflect the City’s diverse population.
Summary of Public Outreach Efforts
Library staff does outreach at different locations to promote library programs.
Legal Analysis
The City Attorney has reviewed these documents and agreements and approved them as to form.
Financial Impacts
Acceptance of this donation will not impact the General Fund. There is no local contribution required. The donation will be deposited into the 010-3803 Revenue Account and expended as follows:
