RESOLUTION THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO

RESOLUTION NO. 2022-

 

HONORING COUNCIL MEMBER CORINA LOPEZ AND PUBLICLY ACKNOWLEDGING HER TWO TERMS ON THE CITY COUNCIL AND NUMEROUS PUBLIC SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS 

 

WHEREAS, Council Member Corina Lopez grew up in a migrant farm-working family in the Salinas Valley, attended the Head Start program as a child, and eventually became the first member of her immediate family to go to college, attending Princeton University; and

 

WHEREAS, Council Member Lopez is a successful businesswoman with over 25 years of academic, professional, and practical experience in finance, including a career on Wall Street as an equity analyst; and

 

WHEREAS, Lopez began her service to San Leandro as a park and neighborhood advocate, then as a City of San Leandro Human Services Commissioner, followed by service as a Trustee for the San Leandro Unified School District; and

 

WHEREAS, Council Member Corina Lopez was first elected to the San Leandro City Council as part of the November 2014 election and commenced her service as a member of the City Council in January 2015; and

 

WHEREAS upon taking office, Council Member Lopez distinguished herself by becoming the first Latinx member of the City Council in San Leandro’s history; and

 

WHEREAS, during her time on the City Council, she served in various leadership capacities on various regional bodies including service as Chair of the East Bay Community Energy Board, and served on the Alameda County Fire Advisory Commission for 8 years; and

 

WHEREAS, Council Member Lopez served on the City Council Facilities & Transportation Committee as well as the Finance Committee, where she championed numerous important causes, including significant improvements to San Leandro’s parks and infrastructure, identifying new funding sources for important community projects, and bolstering the sustainability of City finances; and

 

WHEREAS, her other distinctions include receiving the 2022 National League of Cities Women in Municipal Government Leadership Award, Assembly Member Rob Bonta’s 2017 Equity Champion Award, and the City of San Leandro Proclamation of ‘Corina Lopez Day’ in 2013; and

 

WHEREAS, Council Member Lopez also distinguished herself at the national level by serving in various leadership roles for the National League of Cities, including three years of service on its Board of Directors, along with service on its Hispanic Elected Local Officials Constituency Group, and Information Technology and Federal Advocacy Committee; and

 

WHEREAS, Council Member Lopez also distinguished herself at the state level through her three years of service on the League of California Cities Board of Directors, as well as serving as the Chair and Vice Chair of the League’s Information Technology and Federal Advocacy Committee, and as an active member of its Latino Caucus.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Pauline Russo Cutter, Mayor of the City of San Leandro, on behalf of the entire City Council, hereby recognize and honor Corina Lopez and invite all members of the San Leandro community to utilize this recognition as an opportunity to reflect on her influence, flexibility, policy knowledge, and advocacy for the San Leandro community.
