RESOLUTION to Approve and Authorize the City Manager to Contribute $16,556 on behalf of the Mayor and City Council to the Alta Mira Club from the Citywide Community Investment Program for the Repair and Removal of Lead Paint from the Historical Residence Located at 561 Lafayette Avenue

WHEREAS, the Alta Mira Club of San Leandro is a member of the California Federation of Women's Clubs; and
WHEREAS, the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) is an international women's organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service for more than 126 years; and
WHEREAS, the Clubs of GFWC are located throughout California with the primary purposes of carrying out charitable service programs, providing leadership opportunities, and enriching the lives of its members through personal growth; and
WHEREAS, Alta Mira Club's purpose is to promote community cultural education, social welfare, and to encourage public participation in civic affairs; and
WHEREAS, Alta Mira Club also maintains a historic residence located at 561 Lafayette Avenue in San Leandro, which is used to host a range of public and community events throughout the year; and
WHEREAS, the historic house was constructed in 1860 and is now in need of a number of repairs that will be of benefit to the public, including removal of lead paint; and
WHEREAS, the Alta Mira Club submitted to the City proposals from construction and hazard abatement companies identifying the costs of repairing the above-referenced issues, which are estimated to be $16,556; and
WHEREAS, the City Council is familiar with the contents thereof; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends approval of issuing sufficient funds from the City’s community investment program to address these repairs, because it is in the interests of public health and welfare to insure a safe environment for the Alta Mira Club to continue its community activities.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE as follows:
1. That the City Manager is authorized to issue a $16,556 payment to the Alta Mira Club in order to address the outstanding repairs of the historic Ygnacio Peralta House located at 561 Lafayette Avenue; and
2. That copies of any final costs associated with the repairs shall be submitted to the City following completion of the project.
