Title
Motion to Designate a Vice Mayor to Serve for a Period of One Year Pursuant to City Charter Section 310
Staffreport
SUMMARY
Pursuant to the City Charter, the City Council must designate one of its members to serve as Vice Mayor for a one-year term at its first regular meeting in January.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Staff recommends the City Council adopt a motion to designate a Vice Mayor to serve for a period of one year.
BACKGROUND
The City of San Leandro City Charter Section 310 provides that, at its first regular meeting in January of each year, the City Council shall designate one of its members to serve as Vice Mayor for a one-year term.
While prior versions of the City Council Member Handbook included additional guidance regarding Vice Mayor designations, those provisions were removed in the 2025 Handbook update. Accordingly, the City Charter is the sole governing authority for the Vice Mayor designation.
