SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION

The City, as Successor Agency to the Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Leandro, proposes to sell the property located at 2101 Marina Blvd., known as "old" Fire Station #11, for development as a community-serving commercial use.

Staff recommends that the Planning Commission find that the proposed sale and development of the parcel located at 2101 Marina Blvd (APN: 079A-0568-005-00) is consistent with the City's 2035 General Plan.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION

In 2003, the San Leandro Fire Station #11 was relocated from 2101 Marina Boulevard to its new location at 2194 Williams Street. The building was used as a fire house from the 1950s until the early 2000s. The parcel at 2101 Marina Boulevard is a 0.35 acre property. The parcel was conveyed from the City of San Leandro to the former Redevelopment Agency in 2003 for the purposes of carrying out the Redevelopment Plan of the West San Leandro-MacArthur Boulevard Redevelopment Project Area. The Site contains a one-story, 4,049 square foot concrete-block building and includes space for approximately 30 off-street parking spaces in a rear fenced and paved yard.

The property at 2101 Marina Boulevard is among 22 properties that were owned by the Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Leandro ("RDA") at the time of its dissolution in February 2012. Pursuant to the redevelopment dissolution statutes, ownership of these properties transferred to the Successor Agency of the Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Leandro ("City"). The City is now responsible for disposition of properties owned by the former Redevelopment Agency.
