Proclamation Declaring Hispanic Heritage Month in San Leandro

WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro takes great pride in recognizing National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th to October 15th; and

 

WHEREAS, since1968, National Hispanic Heritage Month has commenced each year on the anniversary of independence of numerous Latin American countries and whose 2022 theme is Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation; and

 

WHEREAS, many members of the Latinx community trace their roots to the cultures of various groups including the indigenous peoples of the Americas, the Spanish explorers, or to enslaved Africans who were brought to the Americas against their own will; and

 

WHEREAS, the Hispanic and Latinx community represents a significant and fast growing demographic of San Leandro and is an important and vital part to the fabric of our community.

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Pauline Russo Cutter, Mayor of the City of San Leandro, do hereby proclaim September 15th - October 15th, 2022 as Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month in San Leandro and encourage our community to join us in celebrating the great contributions of Hispanic and Latinx Americans to our city, state, and nation.
