Staff recommends approval of a Resolution accepting and authorizing the City Manager to execute grant agreement PS25016 with the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and to appropriate grant funds in the amount of $83,000 for the Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Program.
BACKGROUND
The Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) is within the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA), implementing a highway safety program (HSP) that addresses impacts of safety on the road. OTS administers traffic safety grant programs with the goal to eliminate traffic fatalities and injuries.
In September 2023, by Resolution No. 23-126, the City entered into grant agreement PS24035 with OTS to receive grants funds in the amount of $100,000 for the purchase and programming of traffic safety equipment that includes data collection devices, radar speed trailers and rapid rectangular flashing beacons (RRFBs). The existing grant agreement will expire on September 30, 2024.
In March 2024, the City applied for and was awarded grant funding by OTS in the amount of $83,000 to continue with the programming and deployment of the data collection devices and radar speed trailers and the purchase of RRFB's.
A grant funding agreement must be executed between OTS and the City to allow OTS to disburse the grant funds.
