Proclamation celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the San Leandro Kiwanis Club

WHEREAS, the first Kiwanis club started its service in Detroit, Michigan, USA, in 1915; and
WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of San Leandro was chartered on June 5th, 1923, and the first installation of club officers was held at the Estudillo House; and
WHEREAS, Kiwanis International is one of the largest service organizations in the world with more than 551,000 members of all ages and abilities in more than 80 nations; and
WHEREAS, Kiwanians all over the world have united to eliminate diseases such as Iodine Deficiency Disorder and Maternal Neo-Natal Tetanus worldwide; and
WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of San Leandro serves the mission of Kiwanis International focusing on changing the world by serving children, one child and one community at a time; and
WHEREAS, Kiwanians throughout California have united to prioritize young children and families with their campaign known as Young Children, Priority One; and
WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of San Leandro celebrates and fosters inclusiveness through the objects of Kiwanis like: To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life; and To provide a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service and to build better communities; and
WHEREAS, San Leandro Kiwanians have long been committed to improving our local community by supporting legacy projects such as Lifeline, the Davis Street Family Resource Center, Boys and Girls Clubs, San Leandro School music and sports programs, Special Olympics, Police Appreciation Lunches, Building Futures, Bikes for Tykes, April Showers and many annual city efforts; and
WHEREAS, throughout their many years, the San Leandro Kiwanis Club trains and educates youth leaders through their involvement with Circle K Clubs in local colleges, Key Clubs at San Leandro, Arroyo, and San Lorenzo High Sch...
