June 25 - July 1, 2022, as National Boys and Girls Club Week
WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs of America began in Hartford, Connecticut in 1860, with character development at the cornerstone of the experience; and
WHEREAS, June 25-July 1 is designated as National Boys and Girls Club Week; and
WHEREAS, many of the week's celebrations will focus on the Boys and Girls Clubs' ability to provide safe places, academic support, workforce readiness, and health and wellness programs for their participants; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the Boys and Girls Clubs is to enable all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens; and
WHEREAS, the vision of the Boys and Girls Clubs is to ensure success is within reach of every participant, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrate good character and citizenship, and live a healthy lifestyle; and
WHEREAS, Boys and Girls Clubs of America support all youth and teens - of every race, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, ability, socio-economic status, and religion - in reaching their full potential; and
WHEREAS, the San Leandro Boys Club was established in 1947 at St. Leander's Church and changed to the Boys and Girls Club in 1991. They are celebrating their 75th year anniversary this year; and
WHEREAS, the San Leandro Boys and Girls Club currently employs over 50 employees, serves 13 schools in our local school districts, serves over 2,500 youth annually, and is truly a community partner.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Pauline Russo Cutter, Mayor of the City of San Leandro, do hereby proclaim June 25 - July 1, 2022, as National Boys and Girls Club Week in recognition of the tremendously positive impact they have had on the San Leandro community.
