ADOPT: Resolution Appropriating Matching Funds for a 2012-13 Bicycle Transportation Account (BTA) Grant Project (provides matching funding $61,660 to implement Class II and Class III Bikeways in selected areas for a $616,600 grant from the BTA)

WHEREAS, the BTA is an annual program that provides state funds for city and county projects that improve safety and convenience for bicycle commuters. To be eligible for BTA funds, a city must prepare and adopt a Bicycle Transportation Plan (BTP); and
WHEREAS, to be eligible for BTA funds, the City of San Leandro adopted a Bicycle Transportation Plan (BTP) in the form of the 2010 Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan; and
WHEREAS, Caltrans anticipates an appropriation of $11.9 million for projects that improve safety and convenience for bicycle commuters; and
WHEREAS, staff has submitted a grant application for 2012-13 BTA funds to implement and complete the bicycle networks in support of the City's Priority Development Areas by placing Class II bike lanes and Class III bike routes as directed by the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan; and
WHEREAS, if selected for a BTA grant, the City of San Leandro's proposed project cost of $616,600 must be matched by at least 10 percent (10%), or $61,660 in local funds.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does hereby appropriate $61,660 in matching funds from the Measure B Bicycle and Pedestrian fund for the 2012-13 BTA grant project.
