SUMMARY
The City of San Leandro was selected by the Alameda County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for Family Caregiver Support Program funding to expand caregiver support services through Senior Services. The anticipated contract start date is January 1, 2027, resulting in $57,500 in grant funding for the final six months of FY 2027. Including up to three one-year renewals, the City anticipates potential cumulative grant funding of up to $432,500 through FY 2030, subject to continued County funding, satisfactory performance, and required approvals.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Staff recommend that the City Council adopt the Resolution to:
1. Accept and appropriate $57,500 in Alameda County AAA Family Caregiver Support Program grant funding for FY 2027 to the Special Grants Fund, Senior Services Program; and
2. Authorize the City Manager, or designee, to execute the initial Alameda County Family Caregiver Support Program agreement and up to three one-year renewals, for cumulative funding not to exceed $432,500, including related amendments and documents necessary to implement the program.
BACKGROUND
The Recreation and Parks Department provides senior services at the Senior and Marina Community Centers. The Age-Friendly Action Plan and patrons’ input identified caregiver support as a community need. The Alameda County AAA Family Caregiver Support Program, funded under Title IIIE of the Older Americans Act, supports unpaid caregivers through information, access assistance, support services, respite care, and supplemental services.
