NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH

WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month, which occurs annually in September since 9/11, creates an ideal opportunity for every resident of San Leandro to join citizens across the United States in preparing their homes, businesses, and communities for any type of emergency, including natural, technological, and human- caused; and

WHEREAS, planning and investing in the preparedness of ourselves, our families, and businesses, now, before a disaster, can reduce fatalities and economic devastation as well as improve community recovery and strengthen resiliency in our community and nation; and

WHEREAS, all residents of San Leandro are urged to plan ahead for disasters and to encourage their family and their friends to also do so by participating in neighborhood preparedness activities, registering their contact information in the AC Alert and Nixle mass notification systems, and visiting the preparedness campaign website Ready.gov for essential preparedness tips and information.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Pauline Russo Cutter, Mayor of the City of San Leandro, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim the month of September as “NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH” in the City of San Leandro and urge all community members and businesses of City of San Leandro to develop their own emergency preparedness plan, build a kit, prepare for disasters, and talk to friends and family about preparedness in order to create a stronger, more resilient community.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of San Leandro to be affixed this sixth day of September 2022.
