SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION

The City of San Leandro held its General Municipal Election on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. The City's election was consolidated with the Statewide General Election, and was conducted by the Alameda County Registrar of Voters (ROV).

Staff recommends that the City Council adopt a resolution declaring the results of the City of San Leandro's General Municipal Election for Mayor, City Council Districts 1, 3 and 5, and Measures HH and II.

BACKGROUND

On June 16, 2014, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2014-058, which provided for the holding of the November 4, 2014 General Municipal Election. The election resolution included a request that the Alameda County Board of Supervisors permit the consolidation of the City's General Municipal Election with the Statewide General Election, and that the ROV provide necessary services related to the conduct of the election.

A Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) system was used to comply with the City Charter requirement to elect candidates by a 50% plus one majority. As required by the California Elections Code, an official canvass was performed by the ROV, and a Statement of Election Results has been submitted to the City. A resolution accepting the Statement of Election Results and declaring the results of the election has been prepared for the City Council's adoption.
