SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to execute a Non-Professional Services Agreement with George Salinas Tree Preservation to perform annual tree trimming of Yarwood Sycamore trees on major boulevards and adjacent side streets.
BACKGROUND
On August 30, 2016, the Public Works Department issued Bid No. 16-17.004 for Boulevard Yarwood Sycamore tree trimming. Two firms submitted bids on or before the submittal deadline. George Salinas Tree Preservation submitted the lowest bid for a price of $48.00 per tree, with a total contract amount of $57,216 to trim 1,192 trees. The bid price includes all labor, materials, disposal, transportation, and equipment necessary to perform the work. The City entered into a contract with George Salinas Tree Preservation approved by City Council on December 5, 2016 with an expiration date of January 25, 2017.
Analysis
If authorized, a new contract will be required for the 2017-18 fiscal year for a price of $49.44 per tree, for a total contract amount $58,932.48. The new contract price reflects a 3% increase over the prior fiscal year. Services include all labor, materials, disposal, transportation, and equipment necessary to perform the trimming of 1,192 trees.
