Proclaiming San Leandro as an Age-Friendly City
WHEREAS, a significant portion of the City of San Leandro’s population are over the age of 50 years and an aging population affects everyone both personally and as members of a civil society; and
WHEREAS, as San Leandro residents stay healthier and active longer, San Leandro is committed to adapting to the needs of changing demographics to serve the interests of San Leandro residents and sustain economic and social vitality; and
WHEREAS, an Age-Friendly City of San Leandro commitment encourages active aging by optimizing opportunities for health and a better quality of life for residents of all ages; and
WHEREAS, where we choose to live, our physical, social, and cultural environment, greatly impacts how we live, and all communities in the greater San Francisco Bay Area play a critical role in helping residents live longer and better;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Pauline Russo Cutter, Mayor of the City of San Leandro, on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby proclaim the City of San Leandro as a city committed to promoting, creating, and sustaining an Age-Friendly Community. I urge every resident to recognize the contributions of our older citizens, to help to create an inclusive society, and to join efforts to support older Americans’ choices about how they age in their communities.
