SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt a resolution to amend the salary schedule of the San Leandro City Employees' Association (SLCEA) to establish the salaries for the new classifications of Senior Public Safety Dispatcher and Public Safety Dispatcher Supervisor.
BACKGROUND
Staff recommends that the following classifications be added to the San Leandro City Employees' Association (SLCEA) salary schedule to provide needed support to the Police Department.
The Senior Public Safety Dispatcher would organize, assign and review the work of the daily operations of the police communications center; provide a variety of law enforcement and support services as required; perform the more difficult and sensitive support functions; and perform the full range of dispatch and communications services as required.
The Public Safety Dispatcher Supervisor would direct, plan, organize, coordinate and maintain the activities of the Police communications center; supervise staff responsible for the 24-hour a day operation of emergency services of the Police Department; and perform the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
The City has met and conferred to agreement with SLCEA regarding the above positions.
Board/Commission Review and Actions
The Personnel Relations Board approved the Senior Public Safety Dispatcher and Public Safety Dispatcher Supervisor classification specifications at its meeting on January 16, 2014.
Fiscal Impacts
The Public Safety Dispatcher Supervisor classification is equivalent to the current vacant Administrative Specialist - Police classification; therefore there is no fiscal impact.
