Title
RESOLUTION Supporting the San Leandro Creek as a Priority Conservation Area
Body
WHEREAS, in August 2014 the Association of Bay Area Governments requested nominations from local governments and special districts for Priority Conservation Areas pursuant to the Plan Bay Area multi-agency regional planning initiative; and
WHEREAS, Priority Conservation Areas are areas of regional significance that contain important agricultural land, urban greening, natural landscape and resource, watershed, historic, scenic, cultural, recreational, and/or ecological values and ecosystem functions deserving of conservation funding; and
WHEREAS, the Priority Conservation Area designation of the San Leandro Creek will include a 200-foot buffer and will be categorized as urban greening, regional recreation, and natural landscapes to increase habitat connectivity, improve community health, and recreation; and
WHEREAS, the Priority Conservation Area designation of the San Leandro Creek with the buffer is in common with the City of Oakland because the creek runs along the border and within the two cities; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro supports the designation of the San Leandro Creek as a Priority Conservation Area, which would make it eligible for crucial funding.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE as follows:
1. The City Council is familiar with the contents thereof; and
2. The City Manager recommends approval of said designation; and
3. The City Council supports the designation of the San Leandro Creek as a Priority Conservation Area, as shown in the map attached hereto and incorporated herein as Exhibit "A."
