RESOLUTION Authorizing the Appropriation of Asset Forfeiture Fund Balance to the Federal and State Asset Forfeiture Fund Operating Expenditures budget for 2017-2018.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Police Department has multiple projects that require funding from the Asset Forfeiture Fund; and

 

WHEREAS, the Asset Forfeiture Fund account is a special reserve account to fund police-specific needs, like equipment, supplies, or services that comply with Department of Justice Guidelines; and

 

WHEREAS, this appropriation of funds will supply police officers with the equipment, supplies, and services necessary for law enforcement that are not currently budgeted in the General Fund.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE that appropriations from the Asset Forfeiture fund shall be as follows:

 

1.                     $50,000 handgun replacement and related equipment-Federal Asset Forfeiture;

 

2.                     $50,000 to upgrade current Automated License Plate Reader technology-Federal Asset Forfeiture

 

3.                     $35,000 to purchase two used, undercover vehicles for the Investigations Division-Federal Asset Forfeiture;

 

4.                     $5,000 for evidence technician cameras and related photographic accessories-Federal Asset Forfeiture;

 

5.                     $30,000 furniture and equipment for field and office employees-Federal Asset Forfeiture;

 

6.                     $10,000 for professional development to send at least one police manager to the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF)-Federal Asset Forfeiture;

 

7.                     $5,000 for gym equipment-Federal Asset Forfeiture;

 

8.                     $25,000 to purchase technology for Crime and Intelligence Unit-State Asset Forfeiture;

 

9.                     $20,000 to fund community engagement activities with community partners-State Asset Forfeiture;

 

10.                     $185,000 Total Federal Asset Forfeiture Appropriation Requested

 

11.                     $45,000 Total State Asset Forfeiture Appropriation Requested
