Adopt a RESOLUTION Approving Recommendations of the Multicultural Ad Hoc Committee Regarding Amendments to San Leandro Municipal Code Chapter 1-3, Boards and Commissions
Body
WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro embraces diversity in the community; and
WHEREAS, one City Council goal is to support and implement programs, activities and strengthen communication that enhances the quality of life and wellness, celebrates the arts and diversity and promotes civic pride; and
WHEREAS, the City Council formed an Ad Hoc Multicultural Committee to explore the formation of a Multicultural Commission; and
WHEREAS, the committee reviewed existing programs, current commission charges, Sister and Friendship City engagement, development and promotion of community events that celebrate our diversity, existing community partnerships, and outreach to non-English speaking communities; and
WHEREAS, upon review of the existing programs, the committee did not recommend formation of new commission, but recommended that the City put forth efforts to enhance and promote existing efforts and programs; and
WHEREAS, the recommended changes are reflected in proposed updates to the San Leandro Municipal Code that enhance the City Council’s effort to ensure diversity and inclusion in community and practice; and
WHEREAS, the proposed updates to San Leandro Municipal Code reflect the City Council’s intentions as stated.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the San Leandro Municipal Code Chapter 1-3, Boards and Commissions, Articles 7,8,15 and 16 will be updated to reflect the recommendations of the Multicultural Ad Hoc Committee.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Multicultural Ad Hoc Committee successfully completed its task as assigned by the City Council.
