SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The discussion item will review, for information purposes only, East 14th Street paving and its potential relinquishment.
BACKGROUND
East 14th Street which is State Route 185 is primarily controlled by Caltrans as a state highway.
Analysis
Caltrans is planning to pave a portion of East 14th Street from approximately the City’s southern border to 150th Avenue this summer and a large section from Davis Street to 150th Avenue in 2021. Caltrans is willinghas indicated a willingness to relinquish responsibility to portions of State Route 185 to the City of San Leandro if the City so desires. To allow for the potential of relinquishment in the future, the State Legislature must would need to pass legislation to allow this action. City staff has maintained an open dialog with both Caltrans and our representatives in the Legislature in order to encourage implementation of the repaving as quickly as possible.
Current Agency Policies
