Title
Staff Update on the Eden Road Project, Project No. 210-38-295
Staffreport
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Staff will update the Committee on the alternatives for completion, plans, schedule and budget for the Eden Road Project.
BACKGROUND
Eden Road, located east of Doolittle Drive, is currently a cul-de-sac with substandard storm drainage, turn around space, and lighting that lacks an all-weather driving surface. The transportation element of the City’s General Plan lists the improvement of Eden Road as an action item. In 2006 a plan line for Eden Road was adopted that includes extending Eden Road southward to the intersection of Davis Street and Business Center Drive.
Staff anticipates that upcoming water quality regulations will require an expansion of the City’s Water Pollution Control Plant, and the land proposed for the extension of Eden Road is the most efficient location for this expansion. The Eden Road connection to Davis Street could be either moved eastward or omitted. These alternatives and their resulting implications will be reviewed with the Facilities and Transportation Committee
ANALYSIS
Omitting the Davis Street connection will reduce the project scope, cost, and the number of properties that receive benefit. A preliminary cost distribution for each option is attached.
