WHEREAS, National Small Business Week is a significant moment in the year to salute our small businesses for their countless contributions to our community; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro recognizes and values the dedication and entrepreneurial spirit of small businesses within our community; and
WHEREAS, small businesses are the backbone of our economy and keep our community and the state and America’s economies growing strong; and
WHEREAS, when we support small businesses, jobs are created, and local communities can preserve their unique culture; and
WHEREAS, because the United States’ 28 million small businesses create nearly two out of every three jobs in its economy, we cannot resolve ourselves to create jobs and spur economic growth without discussing ways to support entrepreneurs; and
WHEREAS, there are more than 2,700 small businesses in the City of San Leandro employing 25 or fewer people, many of them minority- and women-owned; and
WHEREAS, the majority of businesses most severely impacted by the economic fallout of COVID-19 are small businesses; and
WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro and the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce support and join in the national effort to help small businesses grow their business, create jobs, and ensure that our community remains as vibrant tomorrow as it is today.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Pauline Russo Cutter, Mayor of the City of San Leandro, do hereby proclaim May 1-7, 2022, as “Small Business Week” in the City of San Leandro.
