SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Staff recommends that the City Council receive the City of San Leandro Equity Plan developed by SEED Collaborative and the Equity Work Group.

BACKGROUND

In December 2020, the City entered into an agreement with SEED Collaborative, Inc. (SEED), to assist with developing an Equity Plan. SEED’s scope included:

1.                     Assessing perceptions from a diverse representation of staff and community members of the City’s diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging practices and policies.

2.                     Facilitation of community and staff engagement where recommendations are developed in which to promote transparency, encourage engagement and implement an Equity Plan.

3.                     Preparation of an Equity Plan. The Plan includes recommendations derived from the group process, and provides rationale, references, and support for recommendations.

Work around equity and inclusion is an on-going effort.  It is expected that once the Equity Plan is received by the City Council, the City Manager will work with the City’s Executive Team on ways to implement the recommendations.

Previous Actions

By Resolution No. 2020-155, the City Council authorized the City Manager to execute a consulting agreement with SEED Collaborative, Inc.

Financial Impacts

Any forthcoming costs related to implementing the Equity Plan will be budgeted in future Fiscal Years.
