2.A. Discussion Regarding MacArthur Blvd/Superior Ave Traffic Roundabout

Associate Engineer Kyle Lei presented an update on the MacArthur Blvd/Superior Ave Traffic Roundabout project.
Mayor Cutter expressed concerns regarding bicyclists and pedestrians in close proximity to each other on the sidewalk as well as the crosswalk east of the roundabout that crosses on-coming traffic from vehicles exiting the freeway. To prevent an accident, she prefers locating the crosswalk elsewhere, and providing better accommodation for bicyclists in the design.

Councilmember Lopez commented that at a 2016 community meeting, 30 out of 32 residents wanted speed bumps installed on Superior Ave. Committee expressed a desire for MacArthur/Superior roundabout to be built well and to accommodate all users to gain residents' support for future roundabouts.

Councilmember Lopez inquired about the possibility of using redevelopment funds to install traffic signals instead of a roundabout so that bicyclists will not have to share the sidewalk.
